WordPress is a free and open-source blogging tool and a content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. We assigned a task where we had to create a WordPress blog. Our upcoming assignments would be posted here before they are evaluated.

There are many advantages when using WordPress to create a website. Firstly, it’s easy to operate as we do not need to possess any knowledge on HTML coding to make changes to our websites. Doing simple things like adding a new page, post and music and editing the content is easy. Tutorials are also prepared within the website itself for beginners like us. Besides, it is cheaper to build a website in WordPress too. A wide variety of themes are available and most of them are free. Thirdly, there are a large number of developers creating themes and plugins for it. WordPress offers many plugins and themes, free of charge, which made adding new features convenient. Furthermore, WordPress is a popular platform, since even Matt Cutts speaks well of it. In addition, the Search Engine Optimization is made simple. E-commerce is also available on WordPress. Woocommerce is an e-commerce add-on to WordPress that makes it easier for user to update their products, coupons, pricing, etc.

However, there are a few disadvantages in using WordPress. For one thing, WordPress updates their software frequently. Some of the plugins aren’t quick to adapt to these changes and they won’t be able to function the way they used to be. Backups would be required as so to not lose data. Furthermore, content would not always look the way we want after these updates are done. It would especially cause frustration to some of us who do not know much about HTML coding. The customization for a theme is also costly. It would take a long time for the layout of the theme to be changed.
